Relativizers and Linguistic Ambiguities of Relative Clause

在关系化结构中,关系化标记的主要功能是标识被提取的核心词,其句法特征主要表现为词形式、词缀(或附缀)形式以及零形式。通过多种语言的对比可以发现:不同语言的标记形式各有优势,不同标记的附属功能也不尽相同;标记差异可直接或间接导致各语言出现不同类型的语言歧义;语言经济性原则可以统一解释各种关系化标记的语法意义。因此,通过对关系化结构进行深入观察,能够揭示语言歧义产生的句法动因。

The major function of relativizers is to identify the extracted head in a relative construction.Syntactically,relativizers can take lexical,affixational(or clitic),or zero form.By making a comparison among several languages,it is found that different languages employ different relativizers which may have different additional functions.These differences in relative construction can,directly or indirectly,lead to linguistic ambiguities of various types.The theory of Linguistic Economy could be applied to the explanation of the grammatical significance of each type of relativizers.The in-depth observation of relative construction may uncover the syntactic motivation behind the occurrence of linguistic ambiguities.
