The Chinese Path to Modernization and the European Model

党的二十大报告中关于中国未来发展的论述,提到了中国到2035年的发展远景和未来五年的具体任务,特别是提出了“中国式现代化”的概念,并就中国对外关系进行了系统阐述。1“中国式现代化”是一个很全面的概念,共提出八个目标:经济和技术的高质量发展、国际治理体系的现代化、全过程人民民主的制度化、人民精神文化生活的丰富、收入增长与经济增长同步、自然环境和生活环境的显著改善、国家安全的巩固,以及中国在世界上地位的提高。

The Report to the 20th CPC National Congress has elaborated comprehensively the essential requirements and objectives of the Chinese Path to Modernization.An overall understanding of the relationship between the Chinese Path to Moderation and the outside world has become the topic of heated discussions within Chinese academic circle.In this Issue,we invite four distinguished Chinese scholars to make in-depth discussions on the Chinese Path to Modernization and the European modern,Europe’s strategic autonomy and the future of Europe,and China-Europe relations.Zhou Hong’s article on The Chinese Path to Modernization,European Model and China-Europe Relations explains that there are at least three aspects in which the concept of the Chinese Path to Modernization is related to the outside world.She then turns to analyze the Europe-style modernization as a reference and makes a summary of what constitutes the European model and of the transformation of Europe in the fields of economy,digitalization,green development,politics and diplomacy.But the Russia-Ukraine conflict has disturbed the process of European transformation while at the same time promoting its reverse transformation.She concludes that it’s necessary for us to be more outward-looking when dealing with China-Europe relations and elaborates the three principles that we should stick to in China’s Europe policy.Feng Zhongping’s article discusses the critical role of Strategic Autonomy in the future of Europe.
