The fourth industrial revolution with artificial intelligence(AI) as the core has come, and AI technology is pushing mankind into an “AI+” era. The development of AI provides a new educational concept and intelligent technical support for ideological and political education in universities. The paper focuses on the new development of the work of “building virtue and cultivating people” in the era of AI, and combines with the actual needs of contemporary university students such as immersion, reading schema and cloud, and the requirements of the intellectualization, ubiquity and personalization of ideological and political education. Based on the connotation and significance of “AI+ ideological and political education”, it empowers ideological and political education with wisdom, and innovates the new mode of “building virtue and cultivating people” education. With the support of AI technology, it is proposed to promote the formation of a new intelligent development system of “AI+ ideological and political education” by improving the “ecological chain”, building the “foundation layer”, researching and developing the “application layer”, strengthening the “digitization” and making good use of the “double-edged sword”, so as to meet the needs of the time for the growth and development of university students.
