新见童叶庚《增补儒林外史眉评》考论

On TongYegeng's Notes to the Supplement to the Scholars

浙江图书馆藏有孤本文献童叶庚《增补儒林外史眉评》一部,诸多《儒林外史》资料汇编失收,亦未见其它论著征引。是集作于清光绪十九年,所评版本为《齐省堂增订儒林外史》,是现存部头最大的《儒林外史》评点。作为晚出的评点,《增补儒林外史眉评》却没有朴学重考据的痕迹,而是集中在对小说情节人物的评骘和写作技法的鉴赏上。童叶庚对作者的写作意图和褒贬倾向把握得比较精准,对人物的评价颇为公允,对小说情节和艺术特性的辨析更为细致,且有不少独到见解。《增补儒林外史眉评》丰富了《儒林外史》评点研究材料,对深入理解和把握小说亦有裨益。

The isolated document of Notes to the Supplement to the Scholars written by Tong Yegeng in Zhejiang Library has not been included in many compilation of the Scholars.This document written in the nineteen year of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty is so far the largest comments on the scholars.Although it came out much late,the Notes does not have the slightest interest in textual studies.Instead,it focuses on the evaluation of the plot and characters and the appreciation of the writing techniques.Tong Yegeng had a more accurate understanding of the author's writing intention and handled properly his praise and criticism of the work.He also offered a fair evaluation of the characters and a more detailed analysis of the plot and artistic characteristics.Many of his opinions were original.Tong's work enriches the research of comments on the Scholars,and is also valuable for the study of the Scholars.
