How to Commemorate Chinese and Foreign Architectural Sages:Centennial of Vers Une Architecture by Corbusier and Reaffirmation of Contributions of Chinese Architectural Giant Tong Jun

2023年是世界建筑大师柯布西耶(1887-1965)《走向新建筑》发表100周年,作为20世纪最重要的建筑师,他也被称作“现代建筑的旗手”,该书倡导建筑革新,走平民化、工业化及功能化之路,使所有的人在谈论建筑美学,将建筑师视为时代之镜。百年过后再读该书,旨在从这部宣言般的著述中,感悟到用建筑解决社会问题之力。文章重在归纳柯布西耶《走向新建筑》的当代定义后,围绕中国20世纪建筑巨匠、多才多艺的童寯(1900-1983),从理论与实践的不同层面,展示他在建筑设计、古建园林、建筑教育等诸方面的贡献。童寯先生对中西建筑文化的精神修养,使他的作品洗练、凝重、明快,他的建筑思想严谨且深刻,均不愧为宝贵的中国20世纪建筑遗产。文章在此时间节点研究中外两位建筑巨匠,旨在指出他们共有的建筑艺术气质与细腻的理念与设计共通点。

The year 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of"Vers Une Architecture"by the world architect Le Corbusier(1887-1965).As the most important architect of the 20th century,he is also known as"the standard-bearer of modern architecture".The book advocates architectural innovation and suggests a path of civilianization,industrialization and functionalization.Upon release,it sparked a widespread debate on the aesthetics of architecture,and architects were seen as a mirror of the times.By reviewing the book one hundred years later,this is expected to learn from this manifesto-like work the power of architecture to address social problems.After summarizing the contemporary definition of Corbusier's Vers Une Architecture,this paper turns to Tong Jun(1900-1983),a versatile Chinese architect of the 20th century,and demonstrates his contributions to architectural design,ancient gardens,and architectural education from both theoretical and practical perspectives.With his spiritual cultivation in Chinese and Western architectural cultures,Tong produced refined,dignified and lucid works.His rigorous and profound architectural ideas are considered a valuable architectural heritage of China in the 2Oth century.Through the study of the two Chinese and foreign architectural giants in the current context,this paper attempts to identify their common qualities,namely the artistic temperament of architecture and the delicate concepts and designs.
