In 2015, a fresco-walled Tomb of Liao Dynasty was discovered during a construction project at Kangzhuang Village, Daxing District, Beijing. The tomb structure was basically well-preserved and the sketch on the tomb gate remained intact. The tomb plan was round and the tomb had a dome. The coffin beds, the wall paintings and a set of pottery funeral wares were discovered. The paintings were separated by the painted architectural structures. The paintings in each zone were severely eroded, but the contents of “banquet picture” and “fake doors” could be still distinguished. The pottery funeral wares were well preserved and intact form. Based on the tomb structure and the pottery, the age of the tomb can be dated to the early Liao Dynasty, and the owner of the tomb is a wealthy Han man. The tomb size, the structure, and the pottery set are the important periodized sources, and the sketch and the painted architectural structure have provided clues to study the architecture hierarchy of that time.
