Purpose:There is growing evidence that screening for scoliosis in groups of primary and secondary school students is essential. This study aimed to investigate the effect of home isolation on the incidence of adolescent scoliosis(AIS)during epidemic control. Methods:Approximately 4000 adolescents in East China were screened for AIS twice before and after home isolation.AIS screening consisted of three tests:①visual inspection,②Adam's test,and③infrared light scan. Results:During the epidemic control period, the prevalence of AIS was 7.58%higher among adolescents after home isolation, with scoliosis occurring mainly in the cervical and thoracolumbar spine segments. The prevalence of AIS among post-isolated adolescents was significantly and positively correlated with BMI and pre-screen time, and significantly and negatively correlated with physical activity time. Conclusions and recommendations:The prevalence of AIS in adolescents increased significantly after home isolation, and increased BMI,increased pre-screen time and reduced physical activity may be the main causes of scoliosis in adolescents. It is recommended that medical and educational practitioners focus on the factors that contribute to AIS in adolescents, increase physical activity time in primary and secondary school students, and reduce screen time and sedentary time in adolescents.
