Anne Ernaux first articulates the creative will to write ethnographically in La Honte,a novel that recounts the childhood trauma inflicted on the narrator by domestic violence and the social stigma generated by the division between the two major classes, the working class and the middle class. She draws on her own experiences and family to focus on social issues and phenomena that have been overlooked but are widespread, revealing the differences in language, habits and tastes between the two classes, giving her autoethnographic writing a rich sociological connotation.Ernaux explores social issues such as class, division and identity through the revelation of everyday life, which becomes the way and content of her autoethnographic writing. The sense of shame becomes an activator of memory, and in the field of memory, she authentically recreates the social landscape of post-war France and the living space, cultural interests and daily habits of different classes.
