Beautiful water city is the backbone for urban water management and the realization of the beautiful China strategy.It is the upgraded version of healthy rivers and lakes,and also the foundation of happy rivers and lakes.It has become the highlight or bright spot of urban water management in recent years.The progress and characteristics of beautiful water cities are summarized in terms of theoretical studies and technological research and development,as well as innovative practices and achievements of relevant cities and planning and design institutions.Analysis has also been made on the challenges faced by beautiful water city construction,with suggestions to the government for strengthening leadership,planning and overall coordination.Other development strategies include long-term planning,giving priority to safety,industrial and interdisciplinary integration,research and development,integration of industry with academia and research,and adapting to water conditions,as well as high-quality development for beautiful water cities that advance with the times.
