Shakespeare wrote humanist ideas with his unique narrative technique, and in“The Merchant of Venice”,the women represented by Baucia and the maid Nilisa reversed the tragedy of Venice through the“third space”,showing the status of women’s discursive power in the Renaissance era.Based on Edward Sawyer’s spatial theory, this paper analyzes the spatial construction and the turning of discursive power in the play from the perspectives of material space, spiritual space and“third space”,aiming to open up a new perspective for the study of Shakespeare, feel the unique narrative art of Shakespeare, and thus reveal the significance of the awakening of women’s independent ideological consciousness to their destiny and redemption of others.
