An Examination and Interpretation of the Preface and Postscript by Feng Junmu

载于《回风堂文》卷1中冯君木的九篇序跋,皆作于其从新学向国学回归的过程中,或洋溢着对其挚友怀才不遇的深切同情,或受托推介而疑似刻意回避其评述对象的结构性缺陷,或藉以阐述他对史书编纂体裁的新见解,或是致敬川人词学成就的捉刀代笔之作。无论写作旨趣如何,这些序跋都是考察冯君木文学理论、史学观念的第一手资料。

The nine prefaces and postscripts that have survived to this day were all written during Feng Junmu’s return from the new learning to the traditional learning.These prefaces and postscripts contain deep sympathy for his dear friend’s unrecognized talents,or possibly it was a deliberate avoidance of structural flaws of his commentary out of commission,or it showed his new insights into the genre of history books,and the ghostwriting to pay tribute to achievements of Sichuan people’s Ci studies.No matter what purposes they were,these prefaces and postscripts are first-hand materials for examining Feng Junmu’s literary theories and historical ideas.
