摘要
作为二十世纪后期备受英国文坛瞩目的华裔作家,兼有英港血统的毛翔青在其跨世纪的文学实践中呈现出从族裔性到世界性的变化。他生活在伦敦时出版的早期作品从后殖民视角再现了英国与香港地区间的微妙关系,以文化喜剧的方式回应了主流社会贴在他身上的“中国性”标签;旅居东南亚后,随着他对亚洲区域去殖民/帝国化进程的日益关注,其后期作品逐渐体现出跨越族裔边界的世界主义意识。本文在英国华人文学史视野下整体考察毛翔青迄今为止出版的七部作品,认为他的创作先后展现出对英国殖民权威和华人离散身份的解辖域化,为这一文学领域的非同质化书写与主题扩展做出贡献。
A Chinese-English writer who commanded much attention in the world of letters in the late twentieth century in the Great Britain and was of the British-Hong Kong region origin,Timothy Mo,in his cross-century literary practice,showed a change that went from ethnicity to worldliness.The early works he published while living in London represented a subtle relationship between Great Britain and Hong Kong from a postcolonial point of view,making a comic response to the Chinese label the mainstream society had put on him.After he moved to reside in Southeast Asia,his later works gradually showed a sense o£cosmopolitanism that transcends the ethnic boundary with his increasing attention to the process of decolonisation and de-imperialization in Asia.This article is an overall attempt to examine seven books so far published by Timothy Mo from the Chinese English historical literary perspective,with the opinion that his writing,over time,is a deterritorialization of British colonial power and Chinese disasporic identity,having contributed to the non-homogenization and the expansion of themes in this literary area.
