In previous studies, yuantilei("round style group")and lietilei("cursive style group")oracular inscriptions, seen as the supplement of the"Diviner Zi group,"were identified as non-royal oracular inscriptions.Through additional analysis, this study finds that these two groups of oracular inscriptions are not closely related to the Diviner Zi group oracular inscriptions. The mode of addressing ancestors among these two groups is more similar to contemporary royal oracular inscriptions."Zi"never appears on or is recorded in diviner's names among yuantilei and leitilei groups. They rather often prophesy the Shang king's activities and thus do not bear characteristics of nonroyal oracular inscriptions. These two groups of oracular inscriptions share many similarities with royal oracular inscriptions in content,as suggested by the subject of divination, who is of a high social status. Therefore, this study concludes that yuantilei and lietilei oracular inscriptions were likely royal oracular inscriptions.
