The Explanation of Yuedingsucheng in Hsun Tzu

經全面考察荀子著作中從“約”到“約定”再到“約定俗成”的完整使用經過,並調查先秦、兩漢時期“約定”一詞的使用情況,探求“約定俗成”從源到流的産生、形成、演變過程,發現荀子所説的“約定俗成”,指的是在新詞新語的産生及使用過程中,既需要官方自上而下進行規範化,又需要在歷史積澱及民間習慣的基礎上自下而上地對其進行加工錘煉。

A thorough examination of the process from Yue to Yueding,and to Yuedingsucheng in Hsun Tzu’s works,and an investigation starting from the usage of the word Yueding during Qin and the Two Hans Dynasties,then a research on the process of Yuedingsucheng from the origin of its emergence,forming and evolution.It was discovered that Yuedingsucheng used by Hsun Tzu refers to the need for official top-down standardization in the production and use of new words,but also bottom-up processing and tempering on the basis of historical accumulation and folk customs.
