In 18th-and 19th-century Guangzhou,a black lacquered gold-painted tea box shape commissioned by foreign businessmen found its origin in the shape of ancient Roman sarcophagi. In this particular case, classical cube architecture functions as a decorative framework, while the production and trade process of tea are represented in the form of comic strips that explain Chin ese culture. The box's design cone ept stems from Western admiration of classical elements,as well as from the way museums displayed their exhibits during that period. This kind of tea box is also a strong physical evidence of the phased development of decorative design. The decoration design concept of this stage stands in line with Western museum culture of the same period, namely, using the existing Western system of knowledge to interpret foreign cultures, and then achieve its globalisation in the field of knowledge.
