The late style of William Turner,a representative artist in British landscape painting,is crucial to the reputation he enjoys today. In his late years,Turner adopted bold and almost abstract techniques to explore the potential of forms and colors in artworks, which represented the artist's active participation in and expansion of contemporary aesthetics along with the emergence of modern art.The Venice series, with the most artworks under a single theme in Turner's late years, provides us with key visual evidence that helps us understand the artist's late style. This paper analyzes the Venice series on the basis of his personal experience and characteristics of the era to discuss the aesthetic style and cultural meaning contained in artworks created in his late life and reconsider the relationship between Turner and French Impressionism and modern art in the west.
