On a field investigation of the Rou Lianxiang in the Lichuan area of Hubei,we found that the relationship between physical performance and local social and cultural development can be seen from its origin, survival, and morphological changes. The physical activities of the ancestral Tujia people were nurtured by nature, and the formation of their physical concepts was closely related to the mode of labor and production. In the process of rapid social changes, traditional cultural life also changed, but the body is still inscribed as a carrier of cultural memory of the original community.Through its physical performance,we can see the writing of historical memory, the transmission of spiritual values, the representation of life experience and the presentation of the body as a dynamic subjectivity. Its intrinsic value lies in the modernized expression of"spiritual rituals"to awaken people's concern for their own life and health, their empathy and resonance with the natural ecology, and their recognition of building a sense of national community.
