ANTIPODES

In the Greek definition,‘Antipodes’means“having the feet opposite.”As an American artist working in China,the experience made tangible meditations on our collective differences and similarities with respect to culture,politics,and ways of navigating these current times.To meet and work with Chinese artists has brought profundity to my art and life.Just as the term,‘Antipodes,’suggests an apt metaphor,so too did my first journey to China in 1997;there would be no looking back.Both my‘self’and,consequently,my art were forever changed.In many ways my art-making,as experience,is an on-going search for a sense of newness.Foreign travel and interactions are mirrors of the artistic experience.
