英国工人阶级家庭和中产阶级家庭的教育选择在中学阶段表现出不同的偏好与特点。英国工人阶级家庭在中学决策过程中偏向半熟练型选择者和无关联型选择者,其中学决策不受课程和教师因素的影响,容易与当地的、社区的或综合性的学校相“适应”,容易受时间、交通、经济因素的限制,并依赖熟人的看法、评价和建议,有限的信息基础可能让他们在教育市场中受挫。英国中产阶级家庭在中学决策过程中偏向特权型选择者或技能型选择者,其中学决策大多不受地理、交通、课程、教师、社交网络因素的影响,会表现出对单一性别学校、历史等因素的更多关注,侧重考虑学校所能提供的资源、设施和机会,愿意寻找“最匹配”其子女性格和兴趣的中学,也更加倾向于参与教育市场。

The educational choices of working-class families and middle-class families in the UK show different preferences and characteristics in the secondary school stage.Working-class families in the UK are more like the semi-skilled choosers and the disconnected choosers in the process of middle school decision-making.The secondary school decision-making process of working-class families in the UK is not affected by curriculum and teacher factors,instead,it is easy to adapt to local,community or comprehensive schools.Also,it is easy to be limited by time,transportation and economic factors,and rely on the views,evaluations and suggestions of acquaintances.The limited information base may frustrate working-class families in the education market in the UK.Apart from that,middle-class families in the UK are more like the privileged/skilled choosers in the decision-making process of secondary schools.Their decision-making of secondary schools is hardly affected by geography,transportation,curriculum,teachers and social network factors.They pay more attention to the factors such as single gender schools and school history,pay more attention to the facilities,resources and opportunities that schools can provide,and are willing to find a secondary school that best matches their children's personality and interests.Middle-class families in the UK are more inclined to actively participate in the education market.
