The His Yuan Lu,or Instructions to Coroners translated by Herbert Allen Giles is a milestone in the translation history of Chinese forensic medicine transmitting into western countries.Based on the theoretical framework of Translation Behavior Criticism Theory,the paper centers on intra-translation and extra-translation behaviors of Herbert Allen Giles in translating The His Yuan Lu,or Instructions to Coroners,by analyzing the his identity,his choices of original text and translation strategies.The paper,including an analysis of translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and political culture in ancient China in the book,as well as a demonstration of the degrees of truth-seeking and utility-attaining of the translation,indicates that The His Yuan Lu,or Instructions to Coroners was created on the foundation of translator's socialized behavior in extra-translation perspective and utilized behavior in intra-translation perspective,aiming to offer an effective reference for TCM"going abroad".
