The Song of the Lark, written by the classic American author Willa Cather, explores the role of nature in the construction of the female body and even identity. The artistic path of the novel's heroine,Thea, has always revolved around the intersection of the female body and nature.By drawing on the view of agential realism from material feminism, this thesis analyses the process through which the heroine,Thea, realizes the reconfiguration of her body and the reshaping of her ecological identity from the real feeling of its materiality and the agential interaction with nature across time, space and territory. This reveals that the view of agential realism has a positive significance for ecofeminism in overcoming the disturbance of essentialism, which provides an alternative to reconstruct female identity in a material and ecological way.
