Rose Galaida and the Central China Relief Records(1946)at Rutgers University

美国罗格斯大学收藏有一批与抗日战争结束后华中地区善后救济有关的原始档案。这批资料于2008年在图书馆内被发现,收藏者是美国社会工作者罗丝·甘乃大,是甘乃大女士在联合国善后救济总署(简称“联总”)湖北分署工作期间经手的文件。应时任国民党行政院善后救济总署(简称“行总”)湖北分署副署长的杨显东博士的要求,甘乃大还介入了中国共产党领导的中原解放区的救济工作。这批资料对于研究联总的历史、抗战胜利后的中国社会经济情况和当时的国共冲突均有价值。

Rutgers University Libraries in the United States house an archival collection related to the relief and rehabilitation efforts in central China following the end of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression(1937-1945).The collection was discovered in 2008.Our research indicates that this collection was the office files of Miss Rose Galaida,an American social worker,from the period when Galaida worked at the Hupeh(Hubei)Regional Office of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration(UNRRA).Upon the request of Dr.Yang Hsien-Tung,who was the Deputy Director of the Hupeh(Hubei)Regional office of China National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration(CNRRA),Galiada also became involved in the relief work in the Communist-led Central Plains Liberated Area.This collection can be valuable to the study of UNRRA,the social and economic conditions in China after the victory against Japanese invasion,and the conflicts between the Nationalists and the Communists at the time.
