Impact of the COVID-19 on Changes in Consumption Structure——Empirical Analysis Based on the United States

基于2014年第二季度至2022年第一季度的美国消费数据以及严格性指数,从个人消费支出、耐用品消费、非耐用品消费和服务消费等方面研究新冠疫情对美国消费结构变化的影响。研究表明:疫情对服务部门的消费、耐用品消费和非耐用品消费均产生了不同程度的影响。各国政府应该更多地关注受疫情严重影响的服务业,并采取措施缓冲疫情的冲击,同时也要关注耐用品和非耐用品的长期消费冲击。

Based on the US consumption data from the second quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2022 and the severity index,this paper studies the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the change of the US consumption structure from personal consumption expenditure,durable goods consumption,soft goods consumption and service consumption.Research has shown that the epidemic has had varying degrees of impact on the consumption of service sectors,durable goods consumption,and soft goods consumption.Governments around the world should pay more attention to the service industries severely affected by the epidemic and take measures to cushion the impact of the epidemic,while also paying attention to the long-term consumption impact of durable and soft goods.
