From Generalization to Balance:the Functions of Chinese Artistic Institutions

名曰“中国艺术机构”,实质上指中国艺术圈内具有展示艺术作品功能的机构,如美术馆,画廊、艺术中心等等。更准确的表达是,本专题所探讨的范畴为那些立足于中国当代艺术展示、传播、研究,并且具备独立运作功能的艺术实体.其中包括了公立与私立多种性质,也包含着营利或者非营利的概念。

Chinese artistic institutions that can be used for display,at the moment,fall into three categories:big galleries(like museums),small galleries(like art corridors)and the growing art space.The National Gallery of Art,in the past,was only for exhibition.However,it has now developed into a centre for display,research,collect!on and education.At the same time,there have emerged all kinds of artistic institutions with different names,purposes and characteristics.The functions of these institutions have come to a necessary turning point and they seem to be more alike.
