摘要
干草意象几乎贯穿莫里斯的整个创作生涯,复现在早、中、晚期诗歌、政论文及传奇中。干草意象日益丰富,照见了莫里斯的思想成长。莫里斯的代表作《乌有乡消息》聚合了数十年来干草意象之寓意,以人民自我授予的干草节为切入口,形塑了友爱、休憩和愉悦的未来社会主义文化,抗衡维多利亚晚期节庆日益政治化的风潮。
William Morris' works are marked by a recurring hay image,which appears in his early,middle,and late poems,essays,and romances.This image evolves over time,reflecting Morris' maturing ideas.As a counterpoint to the highly politicized festivals of the late Victorian era,Morris aggregates the connotations of hay imagery over decades and transforms the haymaking image into the Haysel Festival,a celebration of future socialist culture centered on fellowship,happiness,and rest in his representative work News from Nowhere.
