How to Conduct a Literary Semiotic Study:Reflections on Zhao Xianzhang's Image Theory of Literature

赵宪章的专著《文学图像论》为国内文学符号学研究树立了典范,在方法论上具有深刻的启示意义。文学图像论既是文学符号学自身学理逻辑的合理发展,又是对21世纪“文学与图像”现实的有力回应。图像学视角的引入给文学符号学研究带来了诸多新质、新解。《文学图像论》更新了对语言符号性质与功能的认识,提供了对“文学是语言的艺术”的新解,从语图关系的角度重新界定文学,开辟了文学符号学研究的新领域。《文学图像论》倡导从中国文学艺术实践出发以事实说话、用现象展示的“新实学”,理性与科学精神是其重要特点。

Zhao Xianzhang's monograph Text-Image Theory sets a good example for Chinese literary semiotic studies and has profound significance due to its methodology.The image theory of literature is not only a natural development of the theoretical logic of literary semiotics,but also a powerful response to the reality of"literature and images"in the 21st century.Image theory has led to many new interpretations in literary semiotics.Text-Image Theory updates our understandings of the nature and functions of linguistic signs,provides a new understanding of literature as"the art of language",redefines literature from the perspective of the relationship between language and image and opens new fields in literary semiotics.Characterised by rationality and a scientific spirit,the image theory of literature advocates a"new practical learning"that starts from the practice of Chinese literature and art,speaks with facts,and shows with phenomena.
