Women’s Education in Huizhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties

明清时期徽州文化教育昌盛,女子教育也受到重视。徽州女子教育以“宜室宜家”为宗旨,以幼承庭训与私塾教育为形式,教育内容主要集中在伦理道德教育与诗文经史教育两方面。这种不带有科举考试功利目的并体现出鲜明审美性的女子教育对徽州才媛文化和启蒙教育影响深远。

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Huizhou cultural education enjoyed unprecedented prosperity,with great significance attached to women’s education.The aim of Huizhou women’s educa‐tion was to cultivate girls to be eligible wives for men.The contents of the education mainly focused on the ethic and moral education as well as poems and essays,doctrines and history,which were in the forms of childhood family education and private school education.Without the utilitarian purpose of the imperial examination,Huizhou women’s education reflected distinct aesthetic characteristics,which had lasting influence on talented women culture and enlightenment education.
