With the development of science and technology,artificial intelligence is increasingly being incorporated into the realm of Chinese writing.Nevertheless,this does not imply the obsolescence of human writing.Contrarily,artificial intelligence,exemplified by GPT-4,serves as a valuable adjunct,unlocking new potentialities in the field of writing.This paper,using novel writing as a case study,explores the supportive role of GPT-4 as well as its abilities and effects in novel writing.GPT-4 can assist the authors in initial writing endeavors,provide innovative concepts,and aid the authors in constructing a cohesive narrative framework;it can enhance writing efficiency and assist the authors in refining the granular details of the story;it can expand the creative horizon,igniting the authors'inspiration through interactive dialogues;it can answer queries,thereby broadening the authors'knowledge base;furthermore,it can democratize and enhance writing instruction,lower the barriers to entry in writing,and foster the growth of novice writers.However,there are still challenges and limitations in AI-assisted writing,and while relishing the conveniences and benefits it offers,it is crucial to ensure that legal and ethical norms are thoroughly upheld.
