Poetry and Poets in the Chinese and English Poetic Traditions

中国与英国都有源远流长的诗歌传统,但两者存在一定的差异。汉诗传统中诗歌与诗人的概念很早便已成型,而且始终保持着相当稳固的连续性。英诗传统则不然,它对诗歌与诗人的理解在不同历史时期差异很大,后期对前期经常不是一种继承关系,而是修正乃至反叛。在中国诗歌传统中,诗歌的权威和地位从未受过质疑,而在英国诗歌传统中,诗歌则不断面对各种质疑与攻击,因此诗辩成为英国诗论的一个基本特征。二者的差异也反映了中英两种文化及其社会的特点。

Both China and Britain have time-honored tradition of poetry,at the same time,differences certainly exist between them.The concept of poetry and poet in the Chinese poetic tradition has been already formed,and has always maintained a fairly stable continuity.On the contrary,this is not the case with the English poetry tradition.Its understanding of poetry and poets varies greatly in different historical periods.The later period often is not an inheritance of the earlier period,but a revision or even rebellion.In the Chinese poetic tradition,the authority and status of poetry have never been questioned,while,in the British poetic tradition,poetry is constantly facing various doubts and attacks.
