明清温州地区奢嫁问题探析

Analysis on the Problem of Extravagant Marriage in Wenzhou Area of the Ming and Qing Dynasties

明中后期,温州地区溺女成俗,而奢嫁即是导致当时社会各阶层溺婴的主要经济原因。因婚姻嫁娶费用问题而产生溺婴的现象比比皆是。厚嫁与溺婴相关联成为一种社会风气,对温州社会造成了严重危害。对此,官府和士绅采取了诸多整饬措施加以遏制。

In the middle and late Ming Dynasty,drowning girls was into the vulgar in Wenzhou,and extravagant marriage was the main economic reason for the drowning of babies at all levels of society at that time.Due to the cost of marriage,infant drowning could be found everywhere.Extravagant marriage and infant drowning became a social custom,which caused serious harm to Wenzhou society.Thus,the government and gentry took many rectification measures to curb this bad practice.
