明清天主教汉语文献中所署地名小议——从“金台”说起

A Tentative Discussion on the Names of Places in Ming-Qing Catholic Literatures:Centered on“Jiatai”

在数量众多的明清汉语天主教文献中,涉及地名的出版信息大致包括两类,一是校订者或者付梓者的籍贯,二是刊刻地点。大部分在中国天主教史上较为知名的人物,判断其署地的难度相对不大。然而,一些现象值得留意。有些人物的籍贯署地有多种名称,实则都是同一地方。有些人物的署地与常识相悖,不能依据常识简单断定。有些不同文献的刊刻署地一致,实则是两个不同的地方。还有些署地,依据已有的信息,似乎难以遽断其具体为何地。对这些地名的判断,应充分利用不同语种、不同来源的相关文献进行互证。深入探讨这种丰富多彩的署地现象,或许可以为理解明清天主教史提供一种细微的认识角度。

Among the large number of Chinese Catholic documents in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the publication information related to place names roughly includes two types:one is the native place of the reviser or publisher,and the other is the place of publication.For most of the cases,we have relatively little difficulty in judging this kind of information.However,some phenomena deserve attention.Some figures’native place has many names.Some place names are contrary to common sense.Some different documents are published with the same place name,but they are actually published in two different places.In other cases,based on the existing information,it seems difficult to quickly determine the specific location.The judgment of these place names should make full use of relevant documents in different languages and of different sources for mutual verification.An in-depth study of this rich and colorful phenomenon may provide a subtle perspective for understanding the history of Catholicism in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
