Due to the broad-spectrum activity of antibiotics, antibiotics are widely used to treatment diseases or promote animal growth worldwide in both human and veterinary medicine. The massive and widespread usage of antibiotics have resulted in continuous access and accumulation in the environment, such as water, soil and sediment.Based on the above situation antibiotics have seriously threatened the ecological environment and human health.Antibiotics have become the research focus of domestic and foreign scholars in recent years as a typical emerging pollutant in environmental media.Because of the diverse range of antibiotics with various characteristics,as well as their presence at low concentrations in the environment and matrix interference, higher requirements are put forward for separation and enrichment and purification technology of antibiotics and analytical instruments. The various pretreatment methods and instrumental analysis of antibiotics in water environment samples are summarized, with key elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages of pretreatment methods and liquid chromatography techniques in combination with the properties of various antibiotics.Additionally, the potential factors influencing the extraction performance and analysis of antibiotics are analyzed. Finally, the research for monitoring and management of antibiotics and their metabolites in different environmental media and the establishment of standard methods are prospected.
