This paper concerns the modern foreign language education in England.It investigates the changes in modern foreign language education policies in England and focuses on the birth and development of Mandarin Excellence Programme(MEP),which is the largest investment in modern language education in the UK in its modern history.It discusses,via the lessons gained from MEP programme,how the Mandarin Chinese education could be developed,and identifies strategies and directions for long-term stable development.
