Main achievements from the 2022 archaeological works in the Tangchaodun ancient city site of the Tang Dynasty

2022年唐朝墩古城遗址考古工作中,发现并清理出景教寺院外围的部分围墙,在南墙西端和中部发现2处门道,在寺院内东侧生活区清理出包括居住、储藏、生产等功能的多间房屋,增进了对景教寺院布局结构和营建历程的认识。发掘中出土了生活用具、生产工具、饰品、宗教物品和建筑构件等多种类别的遗物,同时开展了景教壁画的整理工作,为全方位的考察景教寺院及其所反映出的社会历史图景提供了丰富的实物资料。

During the 2022 archaeological work session in the Tangchaodun ancient city site,the team has discovered and cleared up some parts of the outer wall enclosure of a Nestorian monastery,with 2 gateways unearthed in the western and central sections of the southern wall In the living area of the monastery's east side,several rooms of various functions including residence,storage and manufacturing have been discovered,which in turn enhanced our understandings of the layout and construction process of the Nestorian monastery.Various types of remains such as household utensils,production tools,decorations,religious artefacts,and architectural components have been excavated.At the same time,the team also carried out the organisational work of Nestorian murals.This has provided a wealth of material evidence for a comprehensive examination of the Nestorian monastery and the socio-historical landscapes they reflect.
