The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the novel of Native American Indian author Sherman Alexie, tells the identity discovery journey of a young Indian boy,Arnold Junior, who transforms from an“apple man”struggling between Indian reservation and white society to a“nomad”compatible with both cultures to achieve self-development.Through Junior's resistance to the colonial discourse,Alexie denies the feasibility of constructing an essentialist cultural identity in postcolonial space and points out its detriments. The narrow nature of essentialist cultural identity makes it imperative to construct a hybrid identity. Therefore, through the negotiation of heterogeneous cultures at the story level and the strategy of miscellany at the narrative level, the novel presents the fusion of place, race, language and culture in Junior's identity, which is infused with Alexie's thoughts on the construction of Native American Indian cultural identity in the age of globalization.
