The book Taiping Guangji,compiled by Li Fang in the Song Dynasty,records a large number of chicken-related stories,which can be divided into three categories according to their storylines and contents:chicken signs,chicken wards off evil spirits,and chicken shenanigans.The colorful chicken stories carry a rich cultural connotation,reflecting the culture of totem worship and implying folk culture.The chicken is also closely related to the witchcraft culture,and is an important participant in the art of chicken sacrifice and chicken divination.The chicken stories recorded in Taiping Guangji reveal the complete Chinese chicken culture.
