Tao Yuanming in Ancient Academies

书院作为唐宋以后出现的文化教育组织,重视利用圣贤的人格力量来激励学子。白鹿洞书院因为朱熹对陶渊明的推崇而在明代开始祭祀陶渊明,或陪祀于三贤祠、先贤祠、宗儒祠,或专祀于忠节祠。历史上还有不少受陶渊明影响的其他书院。陶渊明与古代书院的密切关系不仅让我们看到陶渊明及其文章超越时空的持久魅力,也为当下开展优秀传统文化教育提供了一种借鉴。

As cultural and educational organizations that emerged after the Tang and Song dynasties,academies valued the personality power of sages to motivate students.The White Deer Cave Academy began to worship Tao Yuanming in the Ming Dynasty because of Zhu Xi’s admiration for Tao Yuanming,which was practiced either in the memorial temples of Sanxian,Xianxian and Zongru,or solely in Zhongjie Memorial Temple.Throughout history,there were many other academies that were influenced by Tao Yuanming.The close relationship between Tao Yuanming and ancient academies not only shows us the enduring charm of Tao Yuanming and his articles that transcend time and space,but also provides a reference for us to carry out excellent traditional culture and education at present.
