布迪厄场域理论视域下的葛译《生死疲劳》翻译策略与方法

On the Translation Strategies and Methods of H.Goldblatt’s English Version of Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out from the Perspective of Bourdieu Field Theory

美国著名汉学家葛浩文翻译《生死疲劳》为莫言在2012年成功获得诺贝尔文学奖有效助力。目前视《生死疲劳》为葛浩文翻译策略转向期的研究对象并运用布迪厄社会学理论进行分析的研究较罕见。运用布迪厄场域理论的三大核心概念“惯习、资本、场域”分析《生死疲劳》英译本中体现的翻译策略和方法,并深入阐释译者选取这些翻译策略及方法的原因和动机。研究发现,译者的动态惯习、葛浩文逐步积累的文化资本以及翻译场域整体态势都与《生死疲劳》翻译策略的选取有着不可忽视的密切关系。

The English version of Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out,translated by American sinologist Howard Goldblatt,successfully paved the way for Mo Yan to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012.However,it is rare to choose Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out as the object of study in the turning period of Howard Goldblatt’s translation strategy within the framework of Bourdieu’s sociological theory.Therefore,this paper analyzes the translation strategies and methods embodied in the English version of Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out based on the three core concepts of Bourdieu’s field theory—habitus,capital and field,and deeply explains the reasons and motivations for these translation strategies and methods.It is found that the translator’s dynamic habits,the cultural capital gradually accumulated by Howard Goldblatt and the overall situation of the translation field are closely related to the selection of translation strategies in Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out.
