上海土音新字本《伊娑菩个比方》及其所见19世纪50年代上海方音

Aesop’s Fables Written in“the New Method of Writing the Shanghai Vernacular”(上海土音新字)and the Phonology of the Shanghai Dialect in the 1850s

文章介绍了美国传教士郏爱比(Asa Bruce Cabaniss)以高第丕(Tarleton Perry Crawford)等传教士创制的上海土音新字翻译编写的上海话本《伊娑菩个比方》(即《伊索寓言》),将其内容与罗伯聃(Robert Thom)所翻译的文言本的《意拾喻言》进行了比较,并整理分析了该书所反映的19世纪50年代上海话的音系特点。

This paper introduces Aesop’s Fables《伊娑菩个比方》,translated and composed in the Shanghai dialect by the American missionary Asa Bruce Cabaniss,using the writing system of“the New Method of Writing the Shanghai Vernacular”(上海土音新字).The writing system was created by Tarleton Perry Crawford with other missionaries in Shanghai.This article also compares the book of Cabaniss and the other version of Aesop’s Fables translated into Classical Chinese by Robert Thom,and analyzes the characteristics of the phonology of the Shanghai dialect in the 1850s.
