摘要 When Chinese President Xi Jinping met his U.S.counterpart Joe Biden on the sidelines of last year's Group of 20 meeting, there was a moment of cautious optimism. Both sides signaled a desire to take constructive steps forward to help mend and stabilize ties. Both committed to moving ahead with a number of high-level meetings, including a planned visit by U.S.Secretary of State Antony Blinken.Indeed, after former U.S.Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's provocative and desta-bilizing visit to China's Taiwan region,on top of nearly two years of Biden mounting efforts to encircle and suppress China with yet more containment policies, many believed the Xi-Biden meeting indicated China-U.S.relations had reached a critical and much needed turn-ing point. They were wrong.
