There has been a great divergence in academic circle in the understanding of the phrase“Se Si Ju Yi”in the Book Ten(Xiang Dang)of the Analects of Confucius.This paper briefly analyzes the key words in it to explore the exact meaning of the chapter.The word“Ci Zhi”in“Shan liang Ci Zhi”means that there is a pheasant nestled in the mountains.The exact meaning of“Shi Zai Shi Zai”is that a pheasant can judge the hour and size up the situation.Confucius is the object of“Zi Lu Gong Zhi”and“San Xiu Er Zuo”suggesting the changes in Zilu's facial expressions after being inspired by Confucius.
