Watanabe Noboru is a character whose name has appeared frequently in Haruki Murakami’s novels since 1985,but there is a lack of substantive discussion of him in the academic community. In this paper,we find that from the perspective of the overall development of Haruki Murakami’s novels,Watanabe Noboru is a person who wants to live in the real society and tries to change it while being an individual. The frequent appearance of this character not only shows the author’s focus on the nature of such characters, but also signals the beginning of a directional shift from detachment to commitment in Murakami’s literature.
