The play narration in Cynthia Ozick’s the Puttermesser Papers follows her concept of liturgical literature. The golem story combines linguistic and religious play with a strong sense of history and redemption.Ozick emphasizes the homogeneity of the game with repetition while representing the fragmentation of the golem as a signifier. The transformation of the golem from protector and redeemer to player, corrupter, and redeemed is a new variation of the imitation game, which becomes a literary innovation of surmounting gender boundaries.
