This article addresses certain key features of the conventional idea of a modern city and addresses how the Covid 19 crisis may well have a long-lasting effects on the architectural design of certain key features of such cities.In particular,the article addresses the ways in which concerns about hygiene and space-sharing now raise difficult questions concerning the viability of the lifts and elevators which have always been fundamental to the design of the high-rise building.These forms of architecture have long been seen as central to the symbolism of the modern city,as well as being central to its practical functionality.
