A study on the funeral custom and literary function in The Golden Lotus and A Dream of Red Mansions——Taking the funeral activities of Li Pinger and Qin Keqing as an example

作为中国著名世情小说,《金瓶梅》《红楼梦》都描写了丰富多样的丧葬习俗。“瓶儿之死”与“秦氏之丧”共同反映出以土葬为主的丧葬方式和繁琐奢靡的丧葬特点,同时具有推动故事情节发展、丰富和塑造人物性格、揭示女性悲剧的文学功能。“瓶儿之死”与“秦氏之丧”真实地再现了明清时期的丧葬习俗,勾勒出明清社会民俗文化的种种图景。

As China’s famous novels,there are rich and diverse funeral activities in The Golden Lotus and A Dream of Red Mansions.“The death of Li Pinger”and“the funeral of Qin Keqing”jointly reflect the funeral ways dominated by earth burial and the funeral characteristics of tediousness and extravagance.At the same time,funeral activities have the literary function of promoting the development of the story plot,enriching and shaping the characters and revealing the female tragedy.“The death of Li Pinger”and“the funeral of Qin Keqing”truly reproduce the funeral custom of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,and outline various scenes of the social folk culture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
