“Collecting Folk Songs and Getting Public Opinions”:Promotion of Poetry’s Public Opinion Function by the Poets of New Yuefu in the Middle Tang Dynasty

先秦曾出现过“采诗观风”的制度,这种制度能使诗歌发挥舆情功能。中唐新乐府诗人倡导恢复“采诗观风”制度,并创作具有舆情意义的诗歌,这类诗作每每带有“报道”新情况的意味,形成独特罕见的意象群。

“Collecting folk songs and getting public opinions”was an established custom for public opinion collection originated in the pre-Qin period(before 221 B.C.).It was again advocated and restored by new Yuefu poets in the Mid-Tang Dynasty(766-835),practicing in their poetry writing.Public opinions were thus collected,to some extent,similar to the“news reporting”,forming the unique image groups.
