《西行悟道》体现了徐兆寿对于西部的“重新认识”和“重新表述”,是近年来西部写作极为重要的代表之作。从家乡记忆到生态别叙到传统重释,从批判和对话到历史和想象到还原和建构,徐兆寿积多年学术思考和写作努力所进行的西部表达,不仅包孕了由西部而生发的关于文化传统和中国的丰富意涵,而且也示范了一个汉语书写者特别是西部书写者在当下语境所可能的方式和方法。其极富感染力的文字表现,于过去和现在、中国和西方、中心和边缘、历史和审美、理性和感性等复杂关系的张力营造之中,既体现了西部人以自己为中心的一种西部表达,中国人面对欧美中心的一种中国诉求,而且也反映了当下文化人面对现实诸多问题的人文情怀,是当代文学人对散文写作的一种新的探索。
