The Communication Practice of Mencius' Virtue: Connotation, Form and Operation Mechanism

在孟子的思想中,“德”之伦理性压制了宗教性,具备了一般社会伦理的内涵,以孟子之“德”为核心观念的传播实践也因此得以可能。通过“以己为媒”的外向传播与内在自省实践,在“内外连续”的运作机制的作用下,孟子之“德”由外在进入内在,成为内在的人格品质。受“道德型正当性”文化观念与中国社会“深层结构”特征的影响,在儒家心性之学的意义网络中,“德”被与权威、秩序及超越性的力量联结在一起,社会秩序成为心灵秩序的外显,孟子之“德”的传播实践因而变得普遍与重要。

In Mencius'thoughts,the ethical nature of virtue suppresses its religious nature and has the connotation of social ethics in general.Thus,it is possible to disseminate the core thought of Mencius'virtue.Through the external communication and internal self-reflection practice of"using oneself as a medium",the virtue of Mencius is transformed from the external into the internal and becomes an internal quality of personality by the operation of the"internal-external continuum".Influenced by the cultural concept of"moral legitimacy"and the"deep structure"of Chinese society,virtue is associated with authority,order,and transcendental power in the network of Confucian philosophy,and the social order becomes an outward manifestation of the spiritual order,thus making the practice of spreading Mencius'virtue general and important.
