Industrial agglomeration, income gap and environmental pollution

改革开放后,我国东部地区产业集聚区吸引了中西部地区劳动力的进入,缩小了地区间的收入差距,同时,人们对环境污染问题的关注度也在增加。为了研究产业聚集、收入差距以及二者的交互作用是如何影响环境的,现今又会对环境产生怎样的影响,采用2011—2020年中国30个省份的面板数据,利用固定效应模型和分位数回归方法,研究产业聚集、收入差距及二者交互作用对环境污染的影响。研究结果表明:产业聚集水平提升有助于降低环境污染,收入差距扩大则增加环境污染;产业聚集和收入差距的交互作用为正,说明收入差距的增加削弱了产业聚集对环境污染的改善效果。因此,应该在注重产业聚集区布局合理性、加大环保教育与宣传力度的同时合理缩小收入差距。

After the reform and opening up,the industrial agglomeration in the eastern part of China has attracted the labor force from the central and western regions,narrowing the income gap between regions.Meanwhile,attention on environmental pollution has increased.In order to study how industrial agglomeration,income gap and their interaction affect the environment,we use panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2020,and fixed effect model and quantile regression to study the impact of industrial agglomeration,income gap and their interaction on environmental pollution.The results show that:The improvement of industrial agglomeration level helps to reduce environmental pollution,while the expansion of income gap increases environmental pollution;The interaction between industrial agglomeration and income gap is positive,indicating that the increase of income gap weakens the improvement effect of industrial agglomeration on environmental pollution.Therefore,we should pay attention to the reasonable layout of industrial clusters,increase environmental protection education and publicity,and at the same time pay attention to reasonable narrow the income gap.
