进入到19世纪下半叶,美国的科普活动得到迅速发展,到20世纪上半叶,参与科普活动的非政府组织也形成了一定的规模。斯隆基金会就是20世纪美国非政府组织参与科普活动的代表之一,其科普活动开启于20世纪30年代末,主要的科普内容为大众普及经济学知识。基金会为落实在美国的科普活动,不断尝试书籍、广播、电视等新的传播媒体,基金会的“大众经济学教育计划”为培养美国人民的科学素养发挥了积极作用,客观上为推动美国科学发展创造了条件。

Science popularization in the United States developed rapidly in the second half of the 19th century,and by the first half of the 20th century,the number of Non-Governmental Organizations involved in science popularization had reached a certain scale.Sloan Foundation is one of the representatives of American NGOs involved in science popularization in the 20th century.Its science popularization activities started in the late 1930s,and its focus was on economy popularization.The foundation was trying to new communication media such as books,radio and television to implement its science popularization in the United States,and had played an active role in cultivating the scientific literacy of the American people by its“Popular Economics Education Program”,all of which objectively created conditions for the development of science in the United States.
